Philip Dixon Contractors Ltd are a family run business based in Lancashire, founded in 1978. They are sports turf drainage specialists – and undertake contracts which include bulk excavation, drainage, secondary drainage, cultivation, maintenance as well as other associated works of all natural sports surfaces.
Last year the company was awarded the contract to regrade an eight acre (3.2 ha) site of existing football fields for a local council. This involved a cut and fill operation, 6,000 metres of drainage, regrading and seeding of the whole area and also the addition of two new cricket squares.
Ryan Dixon, Contracts Manager stated, “It was then, we decided to purchase a BLEC 1.5m Grader to compliment the other specialist equipment we operate – we have been purchasing and using BLEC equipment for over 15 years, this includes BLEC Turfmaker, BLEC Sandmaster, BLECavators, BLEC Cultipack Seeder and a 2.4m Grader. When creating a cricket square, precision is paramount and so with our experience of BLEC equipment we purchased a smaller grader with a full automatic laser system. The equipment was delivered on time and with the assistance of Tom Shinkins from BLEC to guide us through the operation and set up – we can honestly say that it was a pleasure to use and the finished surface was excellent.”

Course manager Nigel Colley bought a 1.8metre BLEC Power Box Rake and and 1.5metre BLEC Laser Grader to use with their Toro SandPro. “These machines are ideal for helping us to reconstruct our tees,” says Nigel. “The compact nature of both the laser grader and the box rake allows precision accuracy in tight areas like tee boxes.”
“We are delighted with the performance of the BLEC seeder,” says managing director Duncan Ross, whose company was founded in 1960. BLEC machines are reliable, well-designed and well-manufactured.”
Richard Owen from Turner Groundscare, Andrew Morris and his team at Chester Racecourse recently purchased one of our Disc Seeders. This will be used to help with on going track maintenance and on the polo pitch on site.
“We are delighted with the performance of the seeder,” said Stuart Thompson of Bancroft Amenities. “All our BLEC machines are reliable, well-designed and well-manufactured.”
Lloyds Group and Hartlepool Golf Club
BLEC Global have had pleasure in doing business with the Lloyds Group and Hartlepool Golf Club who have purchased a BMS1400 Multiseeder to be used on the lynx course on greens, tees and fairways. Head Greenkeeper Allan Evans said he will use the twin spike rollers to puncture the surface for a light aeration program. The small ‘flower pot’ holes spread the seeds accurately in the ground with very little loss of germination, saving the club money.
